Tsunami and Tornado Information
Tsunamis
Tsunamis race across the sea at up to 500 miles an hour; about as fast as a jet airplane. At that pace they can cross the entire Pacific Ocean in less than a day. And their long wavelengths mean they lose very little energy along the way.
Tornadoes
Tornadoes are the most violent storms on Earth. Winds spiraling into them usually exceed 100 mph and can reach speeds of 300 mph. In the USA, an average of 1,000 tornadoes occur beneath thunderstorms each year, and these typically kill about 60 people.
